The undisputed legend, Marcia Griffiths, also known as the Queen of Reggae, is heading to this year’s Uprising festival. This huge icon, who has been on the music scene for over 60 years, will bring authentic Jamaican vibes to Slovakia during the eighteenth year of the Uprising festival, which will take place August 29th and 30th at the Zlaté piesky in Bratislava.
Marcia Griffiths has had an incredible career, during which she toured the world alongside Bob Marley himself in the 1970s as part of his legendary backing vocalists I-Threes. Her vocals are an integral part of many reggae classics, and her presence on stage gave Bob Marley’s concerts an unmistakable atmosphere.
In addition to her work with Bob Marley, Marcia Griffiths also has an extremely successful solo career, during which she has released 19 solo albums and numerous hits. She also formed a famous duo with Bob Andy, with whom she recorded five duet albums and enriched the reggae scene with other unforgettable songs. For her exceptional contributions to music, she received Jamaica’s highest honor, the Order of Jamaica (OJ) in 2023, as the only Jamaican female artist.
Marcia Griffiths will perform at the Uprising Festival accompanied by the Lloyd Parks & We The People band. This band is a guarantee of genuine Jamaican vibes, as they have accompanied such an icon as the “Crown Prince of Reggae” – Dennis Brown for many years. Their joint performance with Marcia Griffiths promises an experience full of energy, authenticity and messages of hope and perseverance, which are typical of Marcia.
